Aside from the Raw Mini Pie Challenge testing extravaganza that occurred over the weekend (we’ll be announcing the winners tomorrow!), Lisa and I also put on one heck of a raw dessert demo at the 27th annual Vegetarian Food Festival at Harbourfront Centre.
This particular festival has had a special place in my heart since moving to Toronto in 1998.
Early last month, Lisa and I put out the call to food bloggers everywhere to create unique mini pie recipes that use only raw, vegan ingredients and celebrate the abundance of fresh produce available in your region. The response was incredible. Freshly picked raspberries, peaches, figs, blackberries, cherries and apricots were transformed into perfect little personal pies, ready to be enjoyed without turning on the oven.
I’m starting to gear up for the first-ever Vida Vegan Blogger Conference happening in a little over a week. Words can’t describe how excited I am. When I heard about it almost a year ago, I immediately bought a ticket and started planning a vegan girls’ getaway, which will include three days in Portland and five days in San Francisco. On my way home, I will also be making a three-day stop in British Columbia for my good friend Anita’s wedding.

Now, on to dessert.
Now that we’re at the peak of the summer season, the abundance of fresh produce gives us reason to create new recipes that don’t involve turning on the oven. With that in mind, Lisa and I have a new recipe challenge for you: raw mini pies!
Veg-based foodie site Yum Universe (YU) is turning one on August 12, and they’re celebrating with a birthday-themed contest, which involves creating a plant-based, party-themed, whole foods recipe. To me, birthdays are always worth a little extra effort in the dessert department…
