For the last week and a half I’ve been home alone. My husband went on a golfing trip with his dad and brother, and to say I miss him would be an understatement. When you get used to living with someone and you look forward to seeing him after a long day at work, it’s very disconcerting to come home to an empty house. There is this strange silence that seems to fill the space in an unfamiliar way.

I can’t think of anything better than sweet potato pie that is heavily spiked with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves for a Thanksgiving or fall dessert. Can you? As far as I’m concerned, this is one of just a few traditional dishes that is worthy of a vegan rendition.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a Thanksgiving dessert? Here in Canada, the obvious answer would be a creamy, nutmeg-spiked pumpkin pie with a light, flaky pastry crust. If you want to kick it up a notch this holiday, here is a delicious and unexpected dessert that combines spiced pumpkin with a rich, fudgy brownie base–no crust required!
