Gearing up for the 7th Annual Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off + a prize pack giveaway! | A Dash of Compassion

I gotta admit: Toronto is one of the best cities to live in if you’re vegan. Not only is it home to some incredible local vegan eateries and the world famous Veg Food Fest, but it’s also host to an annual vegan baking extravaganza, otherwise known as the Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off. This year, the Toronto Vegetarian Association and all of its hardworking volunteers are organizing and hosting the 7th annual event. I mean, as if there could be anything better to do on a Sunday afternoon, right? On March 15, this is where you want to be.

This super sweet one-day event is happening at Daniels Spectrum cultural center in downtown Toronto, where over 40 local bakers will gather to compete for best dessert in categories that range from Captivating Cupcakes, Brilliant Brownies and Bars, Terrific Truffles and Bars to Glorious Gluten-Free Sweets. Hundreds of eager taste-testers from the public get to come and sample the goods and vote for their favourites.

For the last seven years, this event has brought out the best in the veg community and inspires local amateur and professional bakers to showcase how incredibly delicious plant-based desserts can be. Every year, I’m so impressed by the creativity and hard work that goes into each entry.

If you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you may know that I won first place in donut category in 2013 (read my review here). This year, I’m back at it. My vegan and gluten-free “Gimme S’more Cupcakes!” will be entered into the Captivating Cupcakes category. The recipe is a very special one, so I’m hoping people will love it as much as I do.

I so wish I lived in Toronto when I read about such fun events happening there! I’ll have to plan a visit to the city when the Vegan Bake-Off happens next year…

All desserts can be my favorite, depending on what I feel like having in the moment. Right now, I’d go with a raspberry-mango raw cheesecake: something that tastes like summer would be the most perfect dessert!

With all of the fancy shmancy recipes out there for incredible vegan treats, my classic fave is a good ‘ole chocolate chip cookie. I use Dreena Burton’s recipe and sub in whole wheat flour with delectable results!

  16. Christina — March 7, 2015 @ 7:25 pm

I love most treats with dark chocolate, but I’d have to say a raw brownie (with nuts and dates) with some lavender and sea salt is pretty much the ultimate treat.

  17. janet @ the taste space — March 8, 2015 @ 9:43 am

Oddly enough I have never been to this… perhaps this will be the first year I go. Good luck with your treats! Anything with peanut butter and chocolate is a winner in my books.

  18. Karrie C — March 9, 2015 @ 9:36 pm

I honestly have never tried a vegan dessert, but I have heard that zucchini brownies are good!
